Dear Editor,

I would like to convey my deepest sympathy to the relatives and friends of the late Dennis Edghill who died resulting from an altercation on the University of Guyana campus, Turkeyen. The circumstances surrounding his death could have been avoided.

On the afternoon of February 15, the university’s career day came to a close, this was followed by the usual excesses of liquor, intoxicated students, excessively loud and lewd music, and vile behaviour displayed by both the male and female students and non students alike.

Over the years, these actions of the students and visitors have become a norm at the university and the student society has turned a blind eye on the issue. These “bubble sessions” not only disrupt classes, at it did on Friday evening, but it is a far cry from what the students and the university stand for or ought to represent.

I have lost a friend!

Yours faithfully,

Ronald Harsawack
