The reservists should not have been sent home

Dear Editor,

The GDF is attempting to use the media to obtain recruits.

Every army has a reserve force. Last year, however, the Chief-of-Staff of the Guyana Defence Force opted to get rid of this asset by sending all the reservists home because one of their representatives was implicated in the theft of an assault rifle.

Now that crime is rampant it will get more difficult for the manpower of the GDF who are already struggling to cope. If these reservists were there like they always were in the past the GDF would have an easier time trying to catch the insurgents.

Yours faithfully,

Mary John
