Dear Editor,

Mr F Skinner in his letter captioned “Not all Guyanese Americans vote Democratic” (08.03.06) marred his otherwise valid arguments by unnecessarily side-tracking down the traditional, corrosive Guyanese route of seeing things racially. Mr Bisram speaks for Mr Bisram. He has no mandate to speak for Indians either locally or in the diaspora.

I have always supported Mr Obama and I am not at all in the minority. I do so because he offers a fresh approach, or change, whereas I suspect that Mrs Clinton is trapped in a semi-conservative mould. This has nothing to do with race or gender but with policies. Although we do not have a vote in the American elections, I urge all Guyanese to cheer for Mr Obama because of his more enlightened domestic and foreign policies.

Yours faithfully,

D Ramprakash
