Jesuit priests are available from India

Dear Editor,

Apparently there is a shortage of priests in Guyana which explains why so many well established parishes are today without resident priests and so many of the smaller communities are left without any priestly assistance.

It is hard to say why there should be this shortage of priests since it is common knowledge that Jesuits, for instance, are freely available in India and help from this source can be easily obtained. I am told that the Philippines can also offer similar help.

We all know that the Jesuits have been in the forefront of the Church in Guyana. Not only has this been so, but to all intents and purposes this will continue to be so in the foreseeable future.

The Church can only benefit from the presence of the Jesuits as it has done in the past. So let us try to foster this aspect of the Church. Let us offer help rather than hindrance and continue to pray for each other.

Yours faithfully,

John Fredericks MD
