Smugglers are calling the shots

Dear Editor,

The current crisis in terms of ongoing fuel smuggling, convenient dismissals of star and key witnesses from their jobs, the appointment of a prosecutor with known ties to the political elite and lawyers who frequently appear for persons charged with drug offences is one for the history books. Guyana to all intents and purposes is now a narcotic sheikhdom where the drug lords, smugglers and money launderers call the shots.
Hoteliers are given state loans while the average citizen from Buxton to Bagotstown must accept the VAT.

The oil concerns such as Chevron-Texaco and Sol must be concerned that there is rampant fuel smuggling.

It is about time that the people of this country raise their voices in booting out those responsible for this ‘animal farm scenario’ that has taken over the nation.
We need a chapter of Transparency International established in Guyana to further expose the corruption that has now infested ever nook and cranny of this nation.

Yours faithfully,
Mike Singh
