A transfer is not a sufficient punishment

Dear Editor,
Senior police officers and policemen who failed in their duties to respond to a massacre that was taking place in Lusignan were first given a transfer. That was all their punishment. Policemen are subject to transfer to any part of the country be it in the coastland or in the interior so that was really no disciplinary action taken against these men who failed in their duties.

The Guyana Police Force headed by Commissioner (ag) Henry Greene, should have recommended dismissals for these policemen. They proved themselves incompetent and unwilling to perform their duty to protect citizens. They have sworn to the Constitution to serve the Guyana Police Force and to perform their duties without bias or favour, they failed to perform either.

Citizens and relatives should demand that these officers and policemen who failed in their duties on that fateful night should be dismissed.
Yours faithfully,
Baldeo Persaud
