I welcome the ending of the ad ban

Dear Editor,
It must be all smiles at the Stabroek News once again, and I am indeed very happy to see that the government has lifted the ban on advertisements to your newspaper. I, for one, was not in support of the ban on ads by the Government Information Agency (GINA) and believe wholeheartedly in the freedom of the press.

I do not stop short to urge the Stabroek News to be more fair and balanced in its reporting of the news, especially that in the political arena.

I am extremely impressed with the level of your new and refurbished internet website. One gets the distinct impression, while visiting the site, that one is on the CNN.com website. It has a very close resemblance. The site is very user- friendly in that it allows visitors to become members who can comment on the various letters to you and interact more with the various articles.

The print press in any country has such an important job to do in disseminating the daily news to their readers at home and abroad. Therefore, we must set that bar very high without exception. The Stabroek News has a job to do, as do the other newspapers whether daily or weekly.

I applaud the Government of Guyana for making a timely decision to finally end the long and drawn out saga of the Stabroek News ads ban. They have finally come to their senses!
Yours faithfully,
Leon J Suseran
