Brazilian visitors asked to pay $3000 each

Dear Editor,
I was travelling from Brazil by land to Georgetown and was surprised at the treatment from the immigration personnel who demanded $3,000 from each Brazilian national to get a stamp into Guyana.

There were about 16 people. I, as a Guyanese, was not required to pay. I read, write and speak Portuguese well.

I was surprised at this behaviour.
Yours faithfully,
R. Mohabir
