Which part of the Bible was being read?

Dear Editor,
On a few occasions whenever there was an armed  confrontation or shoot-out with bandits and none was left standing, amongst the findings in the crime scene was that of a Bible as reported in the recent hunt for bandit Fineman.

As a Christian I wonder which part of the Bible he or they were reading. Was it the Mosaic law “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” or is it the New Testament on forgiveness- 70 times seven or was it like the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8; v26-40 who required Phillip to interpret his reading of the prophet Isaiah.

Perhaps it may interest our Theologians and Sociologists to enquire into these minds as to why they have chosen such a career path.
Yours faithfully,
Name and address
