Women don’t respect themselves

Dear Editor,

More than ever, women are being treated very inhumanly. Injustices of all sorts are carried out against women. The occurrences of rape have been increasing overwhelmingly. Society has totally lost respect for women. Nowadays, women are only seen as sex symbols. While travelling in mini-buses, the lyrics of the songs being played are degrading to women.

What has caused this epidemic to become part of our culture? Why is society so disrespectful of women? I believe the answer is women don’t respect themselves.

One contributing factor to rape is the way a woman dresses. Like the old saying goes, ‘How you carry yourself, is how you’ll be addressed.’ Many women don’t like men to make degrading, disrespectful comments about them, but they don’t carry themselves in a manner that indicates that they respect themselves. Just flip the channels, and on almost every commercial you’ll see an almost nude woman advertising something. Look at the music videos that are being played on the television, who is it that is ‘whining’ in nothing but their underwear? Women!

Ladies, you need to respect yourselves. If you don’t respect your body, how can I? You need to dress modestly.

Every father and mother should monitor the way their daughters dress. It is imperative that parents teach their children good morals. One of the best ways to do that is by being the example.

Yours faithfully,
Navindo Tinsarran
