Dear Editor,

Whether the questioner is seen as hostile or political, officials must give restrained and as honest answers as possible. Mr Rohee did not serve the government and Guyanese well by acting in an arrogant and ill-tempered manner in his press conference.

His comment that he did not work for any media house and did not answer to the people but rather to the government was appalling. He may not work for the media but he does work for the media’s readers.

The President and other officials must handle questions more calmly and as fully as possible.

Bad manners and poor responses are unacceptable.  Speculation is fuelled by a lack of, or incomplete official information.

Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
