Dr Jagan’s legacy?

Dear Editor,

I believe that I am right in assuming that the Mr Mohammed Sattaur who signed the letter ‘Dr Jagan’s legacy is alive and well’ (SN July 9, 2008) as Administrator of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre is also the CEO of the National Communications Network (NCN).

An administrator is an executive (part or full-time) function, and I wonder not only how Mr Sattaur combines his full-time executive position at NCN with that at the centre but also how he reconciles holding a state-financed position with that in a quasi and partly state-funded political position. I would also be interested in knowing whether the board or the governance policies of the NCN permit such action.

Such open disregard for good conduct and good taste is hardly consistent with what one thinks Dr Jagan’s legacy is.

Yours faithfully,
Christopher Ram
