Dear Editor,

I refer to Andres Oppenheimer’s article published in the SN of July 19, ‘To your health: You can care for it abroad.’

Of course I am no celebrity like Oppenheimer yet I got similar treatment such as what he had in Mexico in San Jose, Costa Rica, where I spent almost three weeks; the health care there was unbelievably good. Then in 2003 I got the best eye surgery at the Queens Hospital in New York; my surgery was what I call a miracle.

You see in 2002 I visited four doctors here in South America, two at the public hospital in Georgetown, one privately in Georgetown and one in Paramaribo, and they all told me they could not handle my eyes just yet.

Then in New York an ophthalmologist and her team preformed the miracle; what I could not see or could hardly see for a full 50 years I was able to see clearly after the surgery in July and August 2003.

Yes, Editor, one does not have to be an Oppenheimer to get the best health care; just be at the right place with the right people.

Yours faithfully,
W P George
