Dear Editor,

I agree with the sentiments of Pastor Kwesi Oginga of the elder statesmanship values encased in the existence of Eusi Kwayana (SN July 24).  His consistent championing of freedom, of democracy, of tolerance and equality over the span of some six decades ensures a legacy that may, unfortunately, never be touched.

The political climate in Guyana today is not conducive to Mr Kwayana’s recognition as recommended by Pastor Oginga. What is undeniable, however, is the fact that Guyana has been able to produce a leader who, but for the circumstances of selfish and power-grabbing politics, would have been our equivalent of a Nelson Mandela. God Bless Eusi.

Yours faithfully,
Robin Williams
