We can’t afford these minibus fares

Dear Editor,
Some minibuses were previously charging $140 for one person, and $40 for young children from First Avenue to Four Miles Housing Scheme only up to the Bartica-Potaro Road. Now they have raised the fare to $200 for one person and $80 to $100 for young children. Some families have 2 or 3 children who attend school.

To come out and go back is about $550 a day for children.  For a working person it is $400 to go out and back. This is very hard on parents; some of them don’t work for the kind of wages which makes it possible to pay these fares. Mr Editor, the fares have gone from $140 to $200 for adults and to $100 for children only to travel four miles.  These buses are always overloaded and the road is bad in parts.
I am asking the authorities to look into this matter for us urgently.
Yours faithfully,
