Dear Editor,

It is as I feared; some foreign visitors are having a frustrating and difficult time in the attempt to get tickets for Carifesta.

A friend of mine came from one of the islands for Carifesta. When he could not get tickets after queuing up he got so frustrated he almost went back on the plane. He only got through after going into the ministry and creating a big fuss after questioning whether this event is for Guyanese alone.

Why were tickets not distributed at the airport to visitors coming in for the event? I also received a visitor from Europe and she does not have any tickets. I went to the National Cultural Centre this morning to get tickets and learnt that they were not giving out any more tickets (at least at the time).

It is very embarrassing for me and for Guyana. The organisers need to find a way to help our visitors to access and enjoy Carifesta and their time in Guyana – and they need to do this fast!

Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
