Dear Editor,
With reference to garbage dumping in the city, the recent report in Stabroek Business with comments by the Private Sector Commission (PSC) is timely.

The Guyoil Regent Street Station has suffered from this illegal dumping by businesses in the area for years. Guyoil has contracted a private waste disposal company to remove its waste – including plastic containers on a regular basis – for some two years now.

Guyoil has donated garbage drums to some residents in Wellington Street to assist them in their garbage disposal.

Guyoil has now constructed a fence around its premises to curtail this practice.
Guyoil is aware that certain businesses in the area pay vagrants, etc, a small stipend to cart away their waste, which they dump indiscriminately at any convenient spot.

Guyoil’s Regent Street personnel have had meetings with the relevant city council staff on this issue. The PSC should now involve the city council and its constabulary in curbing this practice.
Yours faithfully,
K Mangal
Chairman

Company
