Unbearable stench in Grove

Dear Editor,

I am indeed pleased that the Health Ministry is involved in getting the dangerous health situation caused by the Princes Street landfill site brought under control. Similarly I would be most pleased for the said ministry to pay some urgent attention to the health hazard residents at the north and the south ends of Grove, East Bank Demerara, face.

At both ends of Grove are lumber yards, and at times more than half a dozen horse carts gather there, and the animals urinate and defecate continuously. The residents of these areas have to put up with the stench 24 hours a day. One woman who lives in the area told me she has to eat her meal in her bedroom to avoid the stench.

Being the JP of the area police officers come to me to authenticate post mortem documents and pensioners come to sign their vouchers in my presence, and they all ask how the people bear up with the stink.

In the circumstances I ask Dr Ramsammy to pay some attention to this health situation.

Yours faithfully,
WP George
