The DPP should explain her position on the GuyFlag case as she did in the Gilhuys matter

Dear Editor

I read with interest the statement published by the DPP, Shalimar Ali-Hack, blaming the police for deficient statements which led to her recommendation that no charges be laid against Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys in the shooting of policeman Mark George.

I am writing this letter to seek her clarification on another matter, which engages the magistrate’s court, namely her perceived reluctance to appoint a private prosecutor to handle the matter of the state versus GuyFlag/Sukdeo,  and on which matter she has been written at least three letters and numerous phone-messages have been left at her office.

In fact the presiding magistrate in the said case on one occasion was prepared to adjourn the matter until there was a clear response from the DPP.

Could she say why, for example, she has appointed a private prosecutor in the case of the state versus Oliver Hinckson, namely Mr. Datadin, and appear not to want to do the same in the case involving the company and individual who allegedly forged an insurance claim form with the intent to defraud? I sincerely hope she would grace the public with her reasoning as she did in the Gilhuys case.

Yours faithfully,
Malcolm Rodrigues s.j.
