Dear Editor,
Mr Persaud’s statement that “We cannot plan a marketing strategy on a crop-by-crop basis” is correct.  It is clear we need new trade & development partners.
Jamaica and Trinidad are busy trying to develop their own agricultural base. He says we are a part of CARICOM, but is CARICOM a part of us?  We seem to be disrespected, used and disregarded by CARICOM.

Guyana’s future lies elsewhere, and not in a subservient position to our Caribbean neighbours. We need a more realistic and aggressive approach to agri development and it starts with roads, storage, processing and marketing improvements, using joint and multiple partners including government in developing these areas needed for agri-development.
Yours faithfully,
