I would like to bring certain issues to the attention of the National Communications Network Inc. (NCN) in Georgetown. The time has come to take a stand on the operations of NCN Berbice. I do not know if NCN Berbice has a board of directors. If it doesn’t, then let us have reputable persons with respect towards Berbicians on board. Let us have one PNC and one AFC representative each on the board to oversee the day-to-day operations of this channel.
The programmes leave much to be desired. Just imagine, the people of Guyana own this station and we cannot have reputable programmes. Berbicians must speak out now!
Today, (at the time of writing this letter), Wednesday, October 1, from 8 am to now (12:30 pm) one religious programme is being aired. As far as I can see, NCN Berbice has no regards for the Berbicians! I observed that 12:30 pm ran straight through 2:00 pm that day. So that amounts to some six hours of religious programming for that portion of the day.
Why can’t some of these programmes be referred to another TV station? The people in charge of NCN Berbice should be sent packing. Cash for some programmes should not be the main priority but consideration for your audience should be as well. I wonder if NCN G/T knows about all of this. Come on, programme director, come and investigate. I have nothing against the 8 am – 2:00 pm issue but let’s space out these programmes. The viewers want to see something different.
Now on Sunday, I was hearing a lot of old 60’s, 70’s and 80’s songs on what I was told by my neighbour was 98.1 Hot FM on the internet. Imagine, all of the world can listen to 98.1 FM except poor Berbicians.
Those at NCN keep making excuses. These lame excuses should engage the attention of this government. But knowing the PPP, they won’t be any more concerned than I am.
Berbicians have had enough! Skeldon Sugar Factory plant working, and yet Berbicians are having umpteen hours of blackouts every single day and night. Berbice River Bridge, the one that can’t be completed and dates have been reshuffled umpteen times and the mystery deep water harbour that we never had. Even more TV stations and private radio stations are dreams that will never come true.
