It is indeed a very sad day for President’s College (PC) when the Board of Governors and The Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) begin a battle for control of European Union funds for the building of a modern Information Technology Laboratory on the school’s campus. I am very surprised that the Board of PC is today fighting with the PTA. I would like to ask the Board of Governors what have you done for President’s College since you’ve been on the Board for the past ten years? Many people in the President’s College family would say absolutely nothing, and indeed it is a fact that the Board of PC has not been looking after the best interest of the school.
Let us ask them how many computers have you been able to solicit for PC? How many pieces of sports equipment have you been able to procure for PC? Why did you allow the new dormitory to take four years to be completed? When last did you visit the sanitary blocks in the dormitories? When last did the Board meet with the workers to discuss the many problems they face and last but not least when last did you donate a box of chalk to PC?
Editor, the Board of Governors of President’s College has outlived their usefulness. The present Board of President’s College has no vision. They see themselves only as Directors whose job it is to give instructions to keep it down.
The initiative shown by Dr Simpson Da Silva should be applauded. Even though I believe that there must be accountability this project must not be taken away from Mr Da Silva and if the wrangling continues longer, in the end it is the children who would lose a great opportunity.
I remember clearly that PC had needed a generator and the Board never saw it fit to assist the school in obtaining one. It took the vision of the then PTA Chairman Mr Metzger to organize a generator through his friends in Germany. They were loud in praise then because it was a piece of equipment.
President’s College needs all the help it can get now for the school is slowly becoming a shadow of itself. PC needs people with clear vision and the will to want to do things that are in the best interest of the school. A partnership must be established between the Board and the PTA in the best interest of the students. Elections for a new PTA are scheduled but when will President’s College get a new Board of Governors?
