Wight’s Lane and exceptions to the rule

Dear Editor,

All are subjected to the Rule of Law (ROL). Except those who are not. Confused? Let me explain.

Following the ROL is a voluntary activity. Not following the ROL is also a voluntary activity. Members of the legal and related professions can debate this until well after the cows come home (from the back dam). In my limited understanding of things, I might be far from the actual truth.

There is a street in Kingston called Wight’s Lane (according to the Lands & Surveys map) that runs in an East-West direction. It is a one-way street allowing traffic travelling in a Westerly-only direction. Based on personal observation, this one-way restriction does not apply to the Prime Minister’s office and any of the Ministry of Public Works employees.

I know that the speed in which Government operates is not suited for expedience. But could some urgency be employed in the updating of the necessary laws to reflect these practices?

Yours faithfully,
Ravindra Saul
