Lallman Lallbeharry was a dedicated community worker

Dear Editor
I was extremely shocked last Saturday when I learnt of the untimely demise of Lallman Lallbeharry of Craig Village, East Bank Demerara. Lallman, better known as Kenrick passed away last Thursday.

He was a dedicated community worker who selflessly endeavoured to help improve the lives and surroundings of the villagers. I was fortunate to have the opportunity of working with him in the execution of some related projects.

This dedication was further evident when he served as Vice Chairman and later Chairman of the Caledonia/Good Success Neighbourhood Democratic Council and in the capacity of President of the New Hope Mandir, a position he held for many years until his death.

I recall in 1994 when there was an urgent need to desilt the main canals within the village to reduce flooding and improve drainage, he provided, at no cost in terms of labour and machinery, his excavator. The relief lasted for years.

This is just one of the many contributions he has made altruistically over the years. The villages of Craig, New Hope, Friendship and to some extent, Grove, have indeed lost as a result of his death. Those who worked along with him were able to benefit from his steadfastness; a quality that was his hallmark.
Rest in peace my friend.
Yours faithfully,
Neaz Subhan
