Dear Editor,

On Diwali day around 3pm, my neighbours and kids began to light off firecrackers and squibs. I was going berserk in my sleep as I am sick, and I asked them to stop, but they did not stop and started to use foul language I called the Anna Regina Police Station and spoke to Cpl Perry and Constable Duncan; they promised to send out their patrol. I waited hoping for their arrival but they never came to warn the perpetrators to desist from lighting firecrackers.

On Diwali night, around 6.30pm the nightmare continued with endless firecrackers and squibs from all and sundry, and while the patrol vehicle was passing it got more brazen. The perpetrators justified it by saying, “Others are doing it, why can’t we?” I have the bad luck to live next to some uncaring neighbours and experienced first hand what sick and elderly people have to go through. I provide this information to the public to show that is a waste of time complaining to the police. Never mind peace and goodwill; this is the season of noise nuisance and danger: squibs, firecrackers and the infernal bombs. It is vital for the police to carry out their duties and charge these perpetrators so citizens can sleep in peace.

Yours faithfully,
Mohamed Khan
Former Deputy Mayor
Anna Regina Town Council
