TV stations should not show beer ad

Dear Editor,
An advertisement at present being shown on television shows a set of young girls – who hardly look as if they are 18 years old − showing Carib beer corks and drinking Carib beers.

This advertisement is not only distasteful, but it is saying to our youths, especially young girls, that it is okay to consume Carib beers. Parents ought to be worried because this exposes their young daughters to sexual predators and other forms of abuse. With AIDS on the increase, it makes our young daughters even more vulnerable.

I call on all responsible television stations to refuse to show this ad since it would be encouraging the further moral decay of our society.

I wish to thank Dr Persaud, host of the Kala Milan show that advises against the use of alcohol, as well as the Minister of Health. I do hope that other stakeholders would get on board, especially the media.
Yours faithfully,
Rooplall Singh
