Dear Editor,

I read with interest the call by Antigua and Barbuda’s Opposition Leader Steadroy Benjamin, calling on the government in his country to take crime fighting to schools (SN December 12). Good for him! I wish the Opposition Leader in Guyana would take a similar posture, as our schools are becoming active breeding grounds for young criminals. But, would they? So often has the PNC criticized the police for “pulling in youths.”

In the letter columns in the same issue, Karen De Souza expected “resignations” at the ministerial level for the current flooding. I am sure Ms De Souza has solutions to the flooding problem which she may willingly share with the subject minister. But I wonder if Ms De Souza would comment on the role of the citizenry in flood prevention. Surely, she must have seen people engage in acts contributing to the present state of affairs.

Yours faithfully,
T Jabour
