Disco at Anna Catherina causing noise nuisance

Dear Editor,
We the undersigned residents of Anna Catherina who live in close proximity to a disco, wish to bring to the attention of the relevant authorities the repeated instances of noise nuisance which are so disgusting and disruptive to our lives.

At first we spoke to the proprietor who promised faithfully that he would turn down the noise after certain hours, a promise that went unfulfilled.
We moved to the courts and got a conviction, and the proprietor was fined.

Apparently we were naïve to think that would be the end of the nuisance. It continues unabated. Repeated reports to the police go uninvestigated since the police are patrons. This has caused the proprietors to act as though no one can stop them. The black clothes police can be seen at the disco in their uniforms at some ungodly hours when they should be out preventing crimes.
Mr Editor, this nuisance comes in many forms, namely:

(1) From the disco itself. We are subjected to a caphony of noise coming from the music, a big screen TV, and the pool hall all at the same time;
(2) The frequent drunken brawls of the patrons; it will only be time before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

(3) The constant issue of patrons urinating in front of our residences, frequently exposing themselves to our family inclusive of children; and,
(4) The drunken and loud babble of patrons at the end of the night awaiting transportation to their respective homes. This is mostly after 1.30 in the morning.
Editor, how can someone get adequate rest in an environment like that? We are therefore robbed of one of our fundamental rights. Because of this nuisance, there is one ailment common among most residents in the vicinity of the disco − constant headaches.

Consequently, we are calling on the relevant authorities to either close down this disco or force the proprietor to seal up his place so that the noise is kept in for the patrons. We the residents do not want to be bombarded into the wee hours of the morning with that trash.

We are also calling on the sanitary authorities to ensure that adequate toilet facilities are provided at the disco so that patrons do not have to urinate in front of our homes, failing which we are calling on the police to prosecute persons doing so.
Finally, we are calling on the Commissioner of Police to ‘shake up’ the Leonora Police Station. There are some ranks there who shelter and condone the nuisance because of the few beers they can get free of cost. We the residents are poor, hard-working folks and cannot afford to buy drinks for these corrupt ranks, so we cannot get the justice and peace we so deserve.
Yours faithfully,
A. Parker

We are sending a copy of this letter to the Commissioner of Police (ag), Mr Henry Greene, for any comments he might wish to make.
