A new home for Max

Dear Editor,

Max had it all, a beautiful and safe home, a loving owner who groomed him daily, gave him the best food and proudly showed him off on daily walks. However, the good life was not to last; a couple of weeks ago Max’s life turned upside down. As he lay in his own bed next to his master, he witnessed the worst thing a dog can imagine − the brutal and savage slaying of his beloved owner. Even with all his barking, his master never had a chance, and he died from blows to the head and knife wounds in his chest from an unknown assailant.

Suddenly Max’s life was in turmoil; confused and scared Max was taken in temporarily by a woman member of the family who asked for help in finding him a new home. I walked into her yard on Dec 18, and saw an angry but beautiful dachsund mixed breed dog. I stooped down to pat him and he growled. He didn’t know whom he could trust. When I looked into Max’s eyes and saw so much sadness I knew we had to find him a home where he could be loved and protected.

As soon as I got home I called animal lover Noreen Gaskin and told her of Max’s situation. Being the angel she is she immediately called a friend whose family had rescued a few other small-breed dogs and love them. The same day her friend went to visit Max in her lunch hour. She won Max’s heart and he hers. That afternoon she took him home, gave him a bath then introduced him to his new family. He was nervous and scared at first, but by the next day he felt at home − running, playing and basking in the love of his new family.

The sad reality is that we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so please think of your pets and talk to your friends and family regarding their future if something should happen to you.
