Commodore Gary Best, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force was elected President of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) at the Association’s Annual General Meeting held Wednesday evening at the Bank of Guyana Roof Garden.

Long-serving vice president Neville Denny, who did not seek re-election, was made an honorary lift member of the Association.

Denny served on the executive for over 40 years and also held the presidency of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Council.

Richard Fields is the new vice president with Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe being retained as an ex-officio vice president.

Ryan Sampson has retained the position of Secretary while Major Terry Stuart is the new Treasurer.

Lancelot Khan retained the position of Assistant Secretary Treasurer while the committee members are Hemant Narine, Ransford Goodluck and Mohammed Qualander who will double up as Public Relations Officer.

Mahendra Persaud was returned as captain of the fullbore section with Dylan Fields as the vice captain.

Dale Hing and Joseph Chin retained the smallbore captaincy and vice captaincy.

Meanwhile the local shooters will begin preparation shortly for the Caribbean Rifle Shooting Champion-ships billed for the end of April in Jamaica and the visit to Guyana of the Middlesex shooting team of the United Kingdom, who will be in Guyana prior to the team’s departure for the regional championships.

Guyana are the defending short range champions and will be looking to recapture the long range title from nemesis Trinidad and Tobago, who had edged them out by one point in last year’s regional tournament staged at the Timehri Rifle ranges where training sessions for the squad will commence shortly.
