The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has selected 48 of their best females to commence training for the 2008 NAWIRA Sevens Championships which will be held in Guyana from May 3 -10.

This year marks the second time that Guyana will be participating and much is expected since Guyana is currently ranked second in the region and will be playing on home soil.

President of the GRFU Noel Adonis said that Jamaica had already confirmed that they will participate in the tournament while territories such as Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Cayman Islands and Bermuda are yet to confirm their participation.

The forty-eight women shortlisted are:Lakesha Wilson, Grace Jarvis, Fiona Ward, Eva Harry, L. Sampson, Karen Norville, F. Jacobs, Desaun Josiah, Delicia Mayers, Dawn Fraser, Coretta Richmond, Colletta Hope, Charmin Pearson, Carrin Carter, Careem Skeet, C. Percival, Ayanna Phillips, Andrea Lashley, Allison Williams, Alicia Jahlu, Alana Wilson, Abbigail Tinni, A. Steele, A. Griffith, Latoya Hamilton, Laurel Anderson, Lisa Mangroo, Maurees Skeete, Michele Joseph, Natolia Primo, Nicole Nero, Nicle Shako, Nikita Davis, P. Mc Calmont, Pudence Ross, R. Bovell, R. Grandson, Roxanne Blackett, S. Lewis, S. Solomon, Sabola Gray, Shabana Daniels, Shaundel Richmond, Shennel Daniels, Stacey Sampson, Theresa Torres, Tracey Greaves and Tricia Munroe.

The players commenced training sessions yesterday under Coach Alton Agard and sessions will continue every Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 4:30pm at the National Park. The weight training sessions will take place at the Michael Parris Gym in the National Park on days to be decided by Agard.
