-Lifetime Realty Under-15 Competition Everest and GNIC create upset

Everest Cricket Club and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) created upsets when the Lifetime Realty sponsored George-town Cricket Association (GCA) Under-15 50-overs cricket competition got underway on Saturday.

Playing at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, the home team was asked to take first strike on a good batting wicket and was restricted to 152-5 from their 50 overs. Captain Raj Nanan led the batting with 32 (2x4s) and received solid support from Sunil Rupee 29 (1×4) Mark Rigby 22 and Winston Forrester 20 (3x4s). Rudee Khemraj took 2-14 from his 10 overs bowling for the visitors.

In reply, Everest made light work of their target, reaching 153-5 from 35.5 overs. Chris Suret led the batting with 26 (3x4s) and got some worthy support from Chandrapaul Hamraj (25), Deorandat Singh (21) and D. Roopnarine 19. Armando Doman (1-28) and Nanan (1-35) were the only bowlers to pick up wickets.

At the Ghandi Youth Organization (GYO) ground, GNIC defeated their host by seven runs in a thriller.

Winning the toss and opting to take first strike, GNIC who were placed on the back foot early in their innings by Kwame Cross (2-12) made 144 all out. Delroy Charles led the recovery with a responsible 63 (9x4s) while Rico Favorite 16 (1×6, 2x4s) was the only other batsman to reach double figures. Cross received support from Shiveshwar Sankar (3-30) and Daniel Manohar (2-17).

Charles (3-33) returned with the ball to ensure his batting effort was not in vain as GYO were dismissed for 137 from 44 overs.

Tajenarine Chanderpaul, son of Guyana and West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, led the batting with 23 (1×5, 3x4s) whilst Cross contributed 13. Kumar Singh supported Charles with 3-11 to ensure his team maintained their supremacy over their host.

The other scheduled game at the Everest Cricket Club ground between Ace Warriors and Demerara Cricket Club was not played owing to the unfit condition of the ground. That match will be played at a later date.

The competition is set to continue this weekend.
