Haniff strikes 67 in massive Preysal score

Former Guyanese and West Indies `A’ team opener Azeemul Haniff was in fine form last Saturday, stroking a quickfire 67 for Clico Preysal Sports in a massive effort of 377 for four of just 50 overs against Joe Public Invaders in the Carib Sunday league at Inshan Ali Park in Preysal.

Haniff’s contribution was however overshadowed by former Trinidad and Tobago batsman, left-handed Andy Jackson. He blasted 111 off just 49 balls, which included nine fours and seven sixes. Also among the runs were Barbadian Ryan Hurley who stroked 49. Joe Public Invaders in reply reached 79/5- when rained forced an abandonment to the match.

Another game affected by rain was the encounter between FCB Clarke Road United and Evergreen. However, before the downpour, Guyanese Damodar Daesrath continued his prolific form with the ball grabbing 3/23 to bowl out the powerful Clarke Road team for just 130. Evergreen reached 17 without loss after just three overs, when rained washed out the remainder of

the match.

At Aranguez, another Guyanese in form was Troy Cornelius who stroked a composed 31 to guide his team to a five-wicket victory over EYM MICO. Chasing a victory target of 159, Aranguez lost early wickets but Cornelius steadied the middle order with a patient knock of 31 that guided his side to victory.

Off-spinner Garvin Nedd is also enjoying his cricket across in Trinidad and guided Bamboo Sports to a 132-run win over Old Mac Agro Exchange Sports. Bamboo made 311/9 off 50 overs and Nedd then used his off-spinners to good effect as he grabbed 4/34 to undermine Exchange and they fell short at 176/9.
