The Demerara schoolgirls cricket team and the Bank of Guyana mixed team (male and female) are currently in preparation for the two tournaments in Barbados during the Easter weekend next month.

The Demerara girls’ team will soon combine with girls from Berbice and Essequibo to participate in the West Indies Women’s Windball tournament in Barbados.

The Bank of Guyana mixed team is currently training for the Central Bank International Softball Championship which will take place on the same weekend as the Windball Championships.

Some 45 students from Essequibo and Berbice will be the focus of the selectors as they undergo training to be part of the Guyana team for the Women’s Windball Championships.

The selection process is set to be completed by the end of the week and then successful participants will be encamped at the Guyana Teachers’ Union.

As a warm-up match, the Demerara schoolgirls played the Bank of Guyana mixed team last week at the CARIFESTA Sports Complex ground, CARIFESTA Avenue.

The Bank of Guyana mixed team won the match after successfully chasing 61 runs set by the Demerara girls in the first innings.

They made the required runs with three wickets and 5.5 overs to spare with Allister Griffith top scoring with 22 runs.

According to a release from the National Sports Commission, this was the first of a series of practice matches that the team will engage in as preparation for the regional tournament.
