Two of the country’s top junior badminton players, Nicholas Ali and Avian Rodrigues, will oppose each other tomorrow evening in the under-15 final of the Guyana Badminton Association’s (GBA) Mashramani junior singles tournament at the Queen’s College badminton courts.

Both Ali and Rodrigues outclassed their opponents in the earlier rounds of the tournament to reach to the much anticipated final.

Neither of the two players has lost a single game so far.

The last occasion the two players met was in the singles final of the Guyana Classic International badminton tournament held last December when Ali triumphed.

In the semi-final round on Wednesday, Ali defeated Amand Alvis: 21-2, 21-5, while Rodrigues secured his spot in the final by overcoming Narayan Ramdhani 21-4, 21-15.

The girls’ U-19 round robin singles final was won by Avashti Persaud with Anissa Rodrigues and Asharnica Persaud second and third respectively.

Six-year-old Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Lidya Alphonso in the semi-finals of the girls’ U-11 category lost in the U-13 category to Asharnica Persaud in three sets.

Under-11 Boys’ Singles Finals:

Narayan Ramdhani defeated Jordan Isaacs: 21-3,21-3

Third place went to Diquan Naughton.

Under-11 Girls’ Singles Finals:

Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Lidya Alphonso: 21-8, 21-8

Third place went to Maya Persram.

Under-13 Boys’ Singles Semi-Finals:

Narayan Ramdhani defeated Andrew Peroune: 21-5, 21-7

Armand Alvis defeated Kevin Quaicoe: 21-18, 21-13

Third place went to Andrew Peroune who defeated Kevin Quaicoe: 21-18, 21-15

Under-13 Girls’ Singles Finals:

Asharnica Persaud defeated Priyanna Ramdhani: 21-18, 18-21, 21-12. Third place went to Anara Khan.

Under-15 Boys’ Singles Semi Finals:

Avian Rodrigues defeated Narayan Ramdhani: 21-4, 21-15

Nicholas Ali defeated Amand Alvis: 21-2, 21-5

Third Place went to Narayan Ramdhani who defeated Amand Alvis: 21-14, 21-6

Under-15 Girls’ Singles Third Place:

Anara Khan defeated Tashana Lowe: 21-18, 26-24

Under-19 Girls’ Round Robin Singles:

1st place went to Avashti Persaud

2nd place went to Anissa Rodrigues

3rd place went to Asharnica Persaud
