Kristian Jeffrey outclassed all of his opponents to complete an emphatic victory in the ‘A’ category of the Toucan Industries Mash junior squash tournament which concluded on Sunday at the Georgetown Club.

During his championship run in the ‘A’ category, the national under-19 champion got past all of his opponents in the round robin format of matches without dropping a single game.

In his final match, Jeffrey got past Alexander Arjoon in straight games 9/4 9/2 9/6.

Oliver Downes, the runner-up to Jeffrey in the A category was adjudged Most Outstanding Player of the tournament after completing a very successful tournament in which he claimed huge victories over seasoned campaigners and high ranked players, including Alexander Arjoon and Deje Dias.

Nicholas Narain raced to an exciting three-game victory over long-time rival Joshua Abdool to clinch the category ‘B’ title in grand style. The number one ranked Abdool was forced to settle for the runner-up position in the ‘B’ category while Keisha Jeffrey’s victory on Friday evening over Ashley Khalil gave her the edge to finish third.

Victoria Arjoon and Alexander Cheeks were judged Most Promising Girl and Boy respectively, while Immanuel Barker was given the sportsmanship award.

With the Toucan industries junior tournament completed all eyes will now focus on the junior selectors who are expected to shortlist players shortly for training towards the Caribbean championships scheduled for July this year in Bermuda.

Guyana is currently the defending Girls and Overall Team champion in addition to having won four individual titles at last year’s championships.
