Downes, Grant post easy wins

Anthony Downes continued to breeze past his opponents when the Banks DIH `Plus Energy’ lawn tennis Open tournament organized by the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) continued on Sunday at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel courts.

The 16-year-old Downes eased past Geraldo Alfonso in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in the boys’ 18-years-old and under category.

In the Ladies’ Open singles category, junior player Shawna Gentle, stepped up to the seasoned Shely Daly-Ramdyhan, but succumbed 6-7, 1-6.

Secretary of the GLTA Grace Mc Calmon was also in winners’ row with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Aruna Ramrattan in the Ladies Open singles.

And veteran Rudy Grant also had an easy match routing Thiago Reis 6-1,6-1 in a men’s Open singles encounter.
