Ramnarine to conduct leg-spin clinic here

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in collaboration with the ‘Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation (RPSF) will run off a spin bowling clinic for junior cricketers on March 21, with Everest Cricket Club ground identified for the event.

The clinic will be conducted by former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies leg spin bowler Dinanath Ramnarine.

The one-day clinic is expected to attract more than 12 prospective leg spin bowlers from around the country.

Colin Stuart, Cricket Development Officer of the GCB disclosed that the players will be selected after a planned development programme by the GCB.

Stuart and several coaches attached to the GCB were expected to visit several communities to identify players for the clinic.

Ramnarine, who heads the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) played 12 test matches and four one-day internationals for the West Indies senior team between1997-2002.

He also represented the West Indies at the Youth level from 1993-1995.

The RPSF will also host another Nostalgia Night during the first cricket test between West Indies and Sri Lanka later this month at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel.

The former members of the West Indies team will reminisce on their past experiences playing cricket for the West Indies and their respective countries.

Founder of the Foundation Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira who is based in St. Lucia is due in Guyana for the activities.
