National senior championships this weekend

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has scheduled its National Senior Championships for this Saturday and Sunday at the Police Sports Club Eve Leary and YMCA ground beginning at 1pm each day.
According to the President of the AAG Claude Blackmore, the association had decided to spread the competition over a two-day period so as to have the heats and finals of events on different days.
Blackmore also disclosed that since the 10km and 5km races hd been featured on the events list this year, it is only fair that they be run on two different days.

A press release from the AAG had informed Stabroek Sport that the competition will be open to all athletes 18 and older. However, the AAG has made a provision for athletes 16-18 to take part in one individual event but those athletes will have the preference of competing in only one event over 200m, according to the new rules by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Each athlete will be required to pay a registration fee of $300 for each event that they compete in and registration will be open until tomorrow at the AAG’ s office at Olympic House, Church and Peter Rose Streets.
In the first day of competition, the AAG has scheduled all the heats of the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m races along with the javelin, women’s 5km and men’s 10km races and the long jumps.

Last year’s Senior Championships had been run concurrently with the Junior Championships at the Enmore Ground, with Rawle Greene, Rhondell Adams and Alicia Fortune all claiming senior titles.
