Roraima Cycle Club cyclists Christopher Holder and Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams finished sixth and ninth respectively when the open event of the Beacon Insurance sponsored West Indies versus The Rest of the World cycle championships pedalled off around the Queen’s Park Savannah on Wednesday.

Continental Cycle Club’s Warren ‘forty’ Mc Kay finished a creditable fourth over his Guyanese counterparts, whilst Darren Allen, another Roraima club cyclist finished 19th, four places above last year’s winner Germany’s  Stefan Steinweg  in an event that saw 76 riders facing the starter.

USA’s Justin Williams won the 14-lap event that took place in the night in a time of 1:09:50 .1 whilst Argentina’s Donald Sebastian 09:50.1 and Trinidadian Emile Abraham 09:50.3 placed second and third respectively. Mc Kay completed the event that was going at 38.5 kmh with a time of 1:09:50.3 whilst Holder time was 1:09:50.5 and Williams 1:09:50.9. Allen’s timing was 1:09:54.5

Both Mc Kay and Holder were representing their Trinidadian-based cycle club Trek whilst Allen was making his debut ride amongst international cyclists but still managed to place in the top 20 for his team Knight Riders.

The cyclists will be back in action tomorrow and Sunday when they compete in the track events at the Arima Velodrome. The action will heat up on Wednesday when they take to the road in neighbouring Tobago whilst they return to the Skinner Park track next Saturday. The curtains will come down right where it got started with a 15-lap event around the Queen’s Park Savannah on Sunday.
