East La Penitence, Sophia score lopsided wins

– Millington scores helmet trick while Arthur scores hat-trick

A helmet-trick from Devon Millington, led a star-studded East La Penitence line-up to a 5-0 drubbing over Ann’s Grove while national goalkeeper Shemroy Arthur, abandoned his traditional role between the uprights to register a hat-trick for Sophia which defeated Mahaica 4-0 as the Mayor’s Birthday Inter-Ward seven-a-side football tournament continued Friday night at the Banks DIH ground at Thirst Park. Sheldon Shepherd netted the other goal for East La Penitence while Sheik Kamal scored the other goal for Sophia.

In other results, Tiger Bay, led by goals from Solomon Austin, Wrensford Coleridge, and Wayne Dick, secured a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Buxton whose consolation goal was scored by Rashleigh Morrison. Rawle Gittens and Warren Gilkes scored in Plaisance’s 2-1 defeat of Albouystown whose consolation goal was scored by Zeganaugh Peters while Sean Arthur and Lennox Younge were the goal-scorers as Timehri and Laing Avenue recorded 1-0 wins over Meten-Meer-Zorg and Uitvlugt respectively. And, Frank Dover banged in a double for Goed Fortuin who created a major upset by disposing of West Ruimveldt 2-1. Phillip Rowley scored the lone goal for West Ruimveldt. In the feature match of the evening, Mocha edged out pre-match favourites, Pouderoyen 4-3 on penalty kicks after both sides had played to a goalless draw in regulation time.
The competition continues on Saturday at the same venue with a further eight matches. The competition has been sponsored by Banks DIH and the winning team will receive $150,000 and 10 pairs of football boots compliments of AH Sports.The runners-up will receive $50,000 which has been donated by Beepat and Sons Ltd.
