Following a rain-ruined final that saw not one ball bowled, the executives of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) declared Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) joint winners of the Cummings Electrical/ P&P Insurance-sponsored Raymond Panday Memorial second division competition.

At a simple presentation ceremony held at the Demerara Cricket Club ground last Friday, they were presented with their respective trophies and cash prizes.

Prior to the distribution of prizes, president of the GCA Bish Panday highlighted the importance of three and four- day cricket competitions.
“Even though Twenty20 cricket is not bad and is also a fast moving game, the importance of three-day cricket must be imbedded into the minds of our young cricketers as this will enable him to apply himself more in the middle.”
Panday who is also the managing director of P&P Insurance Brokers limited, further stated that the GCA would be doing its best to ensure that affiliated clubs would have competitions to participate in at all levels and to this effect, both sponsors of the competitions have committed themselves for another year.

He also congratulated the new GCA competitions committee chairman Shaun Messiah, who has done a tremendous job so far, even organizing the final.
“Shaun has been working hard in ensuring the smooth running of competitions by the GCA.

He has been receiving tremendous help from past chairman Alfred Mohammed, who, despite not being re-elected back to the post of chairman, made himself available to work on the sub committee,” Panday stated.

Managing director of Cummings Electrical, the co-sponsors, Michael Cummings congratulated the executives of the GCA for the magnificent way in which the competition was run and indicated his willingness to assist with the development of sports, especially cricket, whenever necessary.
