SN should have recognized Rusal Football Club for their effort

Dear Editor,
As part of the Linden Town Week celebrations the Mackenzie Sports Club organised a football competition. In the finals of that competition played at the MSC on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, Rusal Football Club of Aroaima in the Berbice River came up against the Mighty Topp XX of Linden with the supporting third place game pitting Amelia’s Ward against Winners Connection.

The Stabroek News’s report on that competition (2.5.08) titled, ‘Amelia’s Ward has a successful start to 2008 season’ gave no impression that one of the best teams in the UDFSA was beaten by a team outside of Linden in a competition to observe the town’s anniversary. The question that lingers in a keen observer’s mind is what would have been the headline if the result was 3-1 in favour of Topp XX?The players from Rusal Football Club should be commended/properly recognised for their effort.

Most of them are workers who are working 12 hours a day and travel a rough road, (a journey that takes over three hours), and then return after the game to work the following day.
Yours faithfully,
Jocelyn Morian
