Blue Berry Hill upsets Eagles United; win for Topp XX

By Calvin Roberts

Blue Berry Hill United created an upset whilst Topp XX continued their fine showing in the Upper Demerara Football Sub Association Banks DIH Coca Cola sponsored first division competition when they scored victories over Eagles United Blue and Silver Shattas respectively at the Mc Kenzie sports Club ground last Friday night.

In the first encounter, Blue Berry Hill went on the attack from the opening whistle which caught their opponents flat footed and resulted in Abraham Kassim opening the scoring in the 9th minute. They held onto their lead throughout the first half despite the many attacks by eagles who found their rhythm as the half progressed on.

Blue Berry Hill commenced the second half in the same vein as they started the first and got their second goal in the 64th minute courtesy of a Ray Bobb Semple strike. They added two more to their catch when Bobb Semple got his double in the 73rd minute and then fed Troy Porter who made no mistake in the 77th minute to see off the spirited efforts of Blue Berry Hill.
In the feature game, Topp XX the only team to have won the Kashif and Shangai tournament more than three times inflicted a 2nil defeat on Silver Shattas.|

Even though they came out victors, Topp XX did not had it easy as they would normally and had to stave off some relentless attacks from  Shattas before Curt Murphy who scored both goals for his team, got his first in the 36th minute of play.

It was no different for the victors in the second half as Silver Shattas went in search of the equalizer. It was rather unfortunate for them when Murphy found the back of the net in the 55th minute which eventually knocked the wind out of Shattas sail.

Action in the League will continue today with another double header from 1800hrs. In the first game, Amelia’s Ward United will take on Netrockers whilst Milerock and winners Connections will do battle from 2000hrs. All matches are being played at the MSC ground and are being preceded by junior encounters featuring youth teams of clubs attached to the UDFSA.
