Jackman dazzles; Reid continues dominance in B’ce Zone

Off spinner Mark Jackman (6-10) and opener Flynn Reid with an unbeaten 51 steered Tutorial Academy to a six- wicket victory over Berbice Educational Institute when action in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Republic Bank Right Start Under-15 40 overs cricket competition continued in Berbice recently.

Batting first at Edinburgh, Berbice Educational Institute managed to get 113 runs on the board before being pummelled out in 34.5 overs by Jackman who received admirable support from pacer Shaun Hosannah who took 3-20 from his eight overs.

Reid continued his terrific form with the bat, hitting four fours and the same number of sixes as he registered his third consecutive score of 50 or more (51*) following his 53 against New Amsterdam Secondary and his unbeaten 112 against New Amsterdam School of the Nations and along with Jackman who made an accomplished 28, saw their team comfortably to 114-4 in 16 overs. Kelvin Leitch took 2-31 bowling for Berbice Educational Institute.

In the other scheduled game of the round, Lower Corentyne Branch defeated Upper Corentyne Branch in the Inter-branch leg of the tournament by a 59-run margin.

Lower Corentyne took first strike in the match and posted a slightly challenging total of 168 in 39.4 overs after being 65-5 at one stage. They owe their recovery largely to the batting of Guyana Under-15 all rounder Sharmindra Hardyal who contributed a solid 45 whilst Neron Williams chipped in with 25.
The two posted 55 runs for the sixth wicket.

Delvin Maynard bagged 2-27 from four overs bowling for Upper Corentyne who could  manage only 109 in just over 30 overs as Guyana Under-15 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie (3-13) and Berbice right arm leg spinner Shawn Perreira (2-38) ensured their team advanced to the next round.

Upper Corentyne can only blame themselves for the loss after receiving an opening stand of 30 from Tamesh Ramsarran (12) and Deryck Hinds (10), but the introduction of spin with the score reading 55-1 created pains for them and they crumbled quickly.
