Twenty20 competition for East Bank Demerara

A twenty20 cricket competition is expected to commence shortly in the East Bank Demerara area.

According to a release the competition, to be sponsored by R and W Super Centre of Eccles and W and H Rambarran Marine will commence as soon as the weather permits.

Chetram SinghThe tournament is the brainchild of Guyana Cricket Board president Chetram Singh who is also the appointed chairperson of the Interim Management Committee set up to run the affairs of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association.

According to the release, the tournament will be played on a round robin basis with the winning team to receive $100,000 and a trophy.

The runner-up team will receive $50,000 and a trophy while there are several other attractive prizes up for grabs during the tournament.

Clubs will benefit from free balls and will not be required to pay umpires’ fees, the release added.

They are, however, required to pay a registration fee of $5000 per club in order to participate in the competition.

Interested clubs are requested to attend a meeting today at the Providence Community Centre from 5.30pm where details of this and subsequent competitions will be discussed.
