A fine spell of spin bowling by Delvin Maynard (6-20) sent East Bank Demerara crashing to 80 all out and a 62-run defeat to Berbice in the final of the Republic Bank Right Start U-15 limited overs competition yesterday at the National Stadium at Pro-vidence.

(Clairmonte Marcus photo)The Berbicians won the toss and batted and were indebted to Andy Mohan’s 30 and an unbeaten 18 from Lloydel Lewis for their eventual total of 144 all out from 39.4 of their allotted 40 overs.

Mohan batted for 77 minutes, faced 72 balls and struck three fours in his top score before he was fifth out with the score on 96.

Later Lewis, batting at number six was forced to retire hurt before returning half an hour later at the fall of the eighth wicket to complete his innings. Openers Clinton Pestano and Dominique Rikhi each scored 11.

Bowling for East Bank Demerara off-spinner Jagdesh Bishun grabbed 3-20 while there were two wickets each for Pernell London (2-20) and Davindra Deosarran (2-30).

East Bank Demerara in reply crumbled to 80 all out from 32.3 overs with Maynard the principal destroyer.

He received support from skipper Veeapen Permaul, 1-12 and medium pacer Pestano 1-10.

Only opener Khemraj Singh with 24 from 79 balls in 84 minutes batting with a solitary boundary and Mark Anthony with 11 from 62 balls in 63 minutes batting offered any resistance.

Maynard was named man-of-the-match.

The winning and runner-up teams received trophies and medals from Dennis Benjamin, Manager Cor-porate Operations of Republic Bank Ltd., who met the teams before the start of play yesterday.
