GLTA officially launches two-week tennis camp

The Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) Monday officially launched its annual tennis camp which is sponsored by P&P Insurance Brokers at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel tennis court.

The programme that began last week had skipped its ceremonial opening due to the absence of Managing Director of P&P Insurance Brokers Bishnu Panday who has been sponsoring the programme since 2005. GLTA’s lone certified coach Shelly Daly is the instructor for the two-week programme.

“The weather has prevented us from doing some of what we had planned but the children are still learning and having fun,” Daly said.

Daly further stated that the turn out of participants has been better than in the first week where there were just over 40 participants but in this final week there were over 70.

Added to this she mentioned that she was grateful for the renewing of the partnership with the sponsor and was hoping they would continue to support lawn tennis in Guyana.

The sponsorship cheque which was presented to the GLTA for the camp is for the purchase of balls, water and prizes, among other materials for the programme.
