The Oasis Too Café on South Road will be the venue for what the Guyana Chess Association(GCA) calls ‘the biggest tournament of the year’.

The tournament which begins Saturday at 9:30am will be exclusively sponsored by Oasis Café and Young’s Bakery and is open to players of all ages and offers $40,000 in prize money for first place while the second place finisher will be entitled to $20,000.
 Players are also encouraged to bring regulations size chess sets if they have.

According to a GCA press release, the tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in the first round and consist of six rounds, with 90 minutes delegated to each game.

After that has been concluded, the top sixteen players will be placed into four groups for the knockout round of the competition which will be played the following day.

The semifinals and final round of the competition will be played the very next day. The tournament will be coordinated by Irshad Mohamed who can be contacted on 664-1650.
