Golden performances

Gouveia, Allicock and Rock snatch gold on final night of CABA c/ships

Guyana’s Cleveland Rock, Stefan Gouveia and Herlando Allicock turned in golden performances to snatch three gold medals on the final night of the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) juniors, cadets and females championships Friday night at the Chaguramas Convention Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.

This was disclosed by President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) Affeeze Khan yesterday.

According to Khan, Rock, who fought home boy Sherwin Delone, outboxed the Trinidadian and scored Guyana first gold of the night.

The second gold medal came from Gouveia who fought a meticulously perfect fight against Matthew Spedwill while Allicock taking his cue from the Gouveia and Rock,  gave Guyana its third gold medal when he fought Anthony Duadkeen.

On Thursday night Moonchan Sankar fighting in the Pinweight division secured Guyana’s first gold while the lone female Mandessa Moses also secured gold while Rondell Douglas secured a silver medal  in a closely-contested bout with Barbadian Cobie Braddie and Akeem Alexander a bronze rather than a silver as earlier reported.

Overall the seven-member team ended with five gold, one silver and one bronze, medal.
The Guyana team will be going home.
